On May 31, An Post released a new stamp in honour of the 1,400-year anniversary of the death of St Kevin.
St Kevin was an Irish saint, born in 498 in County Wicklow and played an instrumental part in the role of Christianity in Ireland and Europe.
St Kevin reportedly died on June 3, 618. The stamp and first day cover (FDC) were designed by Vermillion Design and portrays St Kevin and one of the well-known legends of him holding the egg of a bird until it hatched. The FDC features a painting by Nathaniel Hone the Younger of St Kevin’s Church, Glendalough, Co. Wicklow.
